런던에는 구시가지와 신시가지 사이의 확실한 구분이 존재한다.
구시가지 안에서는 새로 짓는 건물도 고풍스러워 보일 정도로 그러한 통일성에 신경을 쓰는 게 아닐까 싶다.
저 사진 자체는 런던타워(라고는 하나 결국 성이다) 안에서 찍었는데, 바로 바깥으로는 신식 건물이 있다.
이렇게 사진을 찍으니, 다른 곳에서 비슷한 각도로 찍은 기억이 난다. 바로 서울의 경복궁 안에서 찍었던 사진이었다.
다만, 이건 좀 더 그 차이가 더 극단적인 것처럼 보인달까.

London has a clear distinction between old and new.
In the Old London, even the new building kinda looks old, keeping that unity within the bounds.
I took that photo inside the walls of Tower of London (which actually looks like a castle), and I could see contemporary buildings right outside.
This photo actually reminds me of another photo I took in Kyeongbok Palace in Seoul. But then, this looks more extreme.

런던의 지하철은 흥미로운 곳이다.
일상과 새로운 경험이 만나는 곳이기 때문이다.

런던의 지하철은 늘 삶을 살아가는 사람들과 런던에 관광을 온 사람들이 섞여 늘 북적인다.
삶에 대한 희망과 새로운 경험에 대한 설레임이 공존하는 곳, 그곳이 런던이 아닐까 싶다.

London Underground is quite an interesting place.
It’s a place where life and new experience meet.

The Underground is filled with a mixture of people living their lives in London, and people who are experiencing London for the first time.
A mixture of hope in life and expectation for a new experience. That’s London.
