사람들은 가끔씩 영원히라는 말에 집착하곤 한다.
“우리의 사랑이 영원하기를,” “우리의 우정이 영원하기를.” 등등등…
(다 비슷비슷해보이나?)
하지만, 영원을 바라는 것은 사치다. 일단 인간이라는 존재가 영원할수 없다.
스티븐 콜베어는 이런 말을 했다. “모든 스포일러격의 원조를 알려드릴까요? 여러분은 죽습니다.”
어차피 모든 인간은 죽는데, 영원할리가 없잖아?
둘째로, 지금 자신이 누리고 있는 것이 영원히는 아니더라도, 최소한 오래 가기를 무작정 바라는 것 또한 사치다.
자신이 누리고 있는 것에 대해 안일해지면 안되는 것이다. 그럼 바로 행복은 끝난다.
모든건 영원할수 없다. 다만, 그것이 얼마나 오래 갈지는 그 인간의 의지에 달렸다.
People sometimes obsess with a word called ‘forever.’
“Let our love last forever,” “May our friendship last forever,” etc…
(I know, I couldn’t think ahead about this.)
However, it is a luxury to wish something last forever. Fundamentally, a human being can’t last forever.
Stephen Colbert once said this: “Here’s granddaddy of all spoilers: you die.”
You’ll die eventually, so why hope forever?
Secondly, just wishing that something you’re enjoying last at least for a long time is also a luxury.
You should not become lazy just because now is the heyday of your life.
The moment you become lazy, you immediately start going downhill.
Nothing can last forever. However, it is up to you how long that will last.
